The Mpora Rural Family Home can offer a number of guided visits to local attractions and places to visit.


Rwenzori MountainsRwenzori Mountains

Hike on the “mountains of the moon” and enjoy the breathtaking views of a day in the lower Rwenzoris overlooking the western rift valley.  On the way discover Ugandan culture by visiting traditional villages, a school, a farm, and stop by a local market.

Amabere ga Nyinamwiru cavesAmabere ga Nyinamwiru caves

Visit these mystical caves with their own natural waterfall and hear about the legends surrounding Nyinamwiru, a princess and daughter of a cruel king. Then take a short hike to the hills surrounding the cave and witness breathtaking views of five of the crater lakes.

Half day excursion US $25 per person includes transport, entrance fees and local guide


Bigodi Wetlands and Crater LakeBigodi Wetlands and Crater Lake
A day trip takes you to the community based organisation at Bigodi Wetlands.  This Wetland sanctuary is a community-run organisation aimed at conserving an exclusive biodiversity & environmental values of the wetland whilst providing income for the local villages such as funding the schooling of local children. This Wetland Sanctuary is known for a wide collection of wildlife that includes primates, like chimpanzees, black and white colobus, red colobus and other mammals which include the bushbuck, sitatunga, otter & mongoose. The Wetland is also a home to 138 bird species. These may be seen in the course of guided walks from boardwalk trail and viewing platforms.

Later visit a crater lake at CVK, Crater Valley Resort Beach Lodge and enjoy a traditional African lunch at the patio bar restaurant. Uganda has been called a land of lakes because almost a third of the country is covered by water. Take a walk along the shore line, ideal for bird watching or a dip in the lake.

Kibale Forest National ParkKibale Forest National Park

Visit the Kibale equatorial rainforest which contains the highest concentration of primates in the world, including 12 different species of which there are about 500 chimpanzees. This enchanting park is also full of lakes, marshes and grasslands and its slopes contain several distinct types of forests and is home to tropical birds and clouds of butterflies. www.uwa.or.ug/kibale.html

Semiliki National ParkSemiliki National Park

Visit Semliki, a dense forest and part of the great Ituri Forest that stretches into the DR. Congo. It is the only park in Uganda composed primarily of tropical lowland forest. Follow the parks established trail, which loops around the hot springs or enjoy the forest jungle walk to see a spectacular array of tropical birds

The natural hot springs attract large numbers of wetland birds, and supply salt for other animals. Some of the animals present include elephant, buffalo, leopard, civet, scaly tailed flying squirrel, and bush baby. There are 8 species of primates roughly 400 species of bird, and almost 300 species of butterflies.

Visits to the national parks can be extended to include an overnight stay, safari and / or chimp trekking at an additional cost.
